VISIT TO THE AMERICAN EMBASSY

By Candice Conton

To continue with the program of our project with Boston, we had the immense pleasure and honor to go to the American Embassy in Paris to meet with a very special hostess: Mrs. Jill Biden!

Are you familiar with her name? Are you sure?

Well: do you know Joe Biden? Have you heard of Barrack Obama? Yes? Well done! Joe Biden is Barrack Obama’s Vice –President, and Mrs. Jill Biden is his wife!!

Can you imagine us at the American embassy to meet with the Second Lady of the United States? Wow! We couldn’t believe our luck!

It was a real pleasure to go meet her because she is a very simple and pleasant woman who is very attentive to her environment.
We all fell under her charm and were very impressed.

Indeed, Doctor Biden is herself a creative writing teacher in a community college, and she hasn’t stopped teaching even though her husband is the Vice-President of the United States!

She is the first Second Lady to have continued working while her husband was in office. She supports many exchanges between American and French students, and that is why she invited us to support us and wish us the best of luck in our initiative.

First, we arrived at the American Embassy and we were warmly welcomed by Fabienne from the US embassy. Then, we had a short tour of the beautiful building, called the George C. Marshall center.

Then, we went to the salon where the meeting was going to take place.
First, Charles, a student from our class, had the amazing honour to give a speech to present our class and our Boston project. He then introduced Doctor Biden who was very impressed with his English.

She told us how happy she was to see French and American students meet each other to develop French American friendship.

Boston Project

Our senior class, in negotiation and customer relation, plans on taking a trip to the USA.
The aim of this project is to develop the friendship between our countries and to deepen our academic and professional skills.

- We want to create a partnership with U.S. companies to develop our knowledge of the corporate world and our language skills
- The program of our vocational advanced diploma in English is based a lot on the corporate world

We wish to stay one week in Boston from 29 March to 5 April 2013, and all our class is mobilized to raise the money needed for this trip.
Every student has a task and a mission to accomplish this project.

My mission is to get involved in the actions of homework help for children in primary schools as well as with middle school students in Nanterre and guide secondary schools students in their training choices.
I would especially like to help older people (by reading to them, playing chess games, and exchange with them) thanks to this association we have created, which is called “A Future for All”.

PROJECT OF A FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

 By Candice Conton

In order to organize our trip to Boston, we have to collect the necessary funds.

For that, we have decided to organize a football tournament which will take place on Wednesday, February 20th 2013.

We will have the great opportunity and honour to welcome the Pro A basketball players from Nanterre who will perform a dunk show before the tournament.

This tournament will be open to all the members of our school in a friendly atmosphere.

There will be 10 teams of 6 players on the ground and the contribution will be of 4€ for every player, or 24€ for one team.
It will be a real opportunity to collect funds for our trip.

A prize will be offered to the winners of the tournament.

For this day to be even warmer, we have decided to set up a refreshment place with drinks and cakes.
The tournament will begin at about 1 :45 pm and will end at about 7 :30pm.

Our Project with Boston

By Aïda Sambe, NRC2

We are 21 vocational students from Joliot-Curie community college in Nanterre. We are Seniors majoring in Negotiation and Customer Relationship. With the help of our teachers, Ms. Khiat and Ms. Guenoun, we are planning on going to the United States next Spring, more specifically to Boston and New York.

We chose to visit the city of Boston, because thanks to Ms. Khiat, our English teacher, we had the opportunity to come into contact with Mr. Cormeau’s students from Another Course to College high school last year, which allowed us to talk with them about our cultures and values, but also to break down the stereotypes we had on our respective countries. With the Q&As (questions and answers) we exchanged, we learned many things and we imagined it would be a good idea to discover the country by ourselves.

This year, we are in contact wit Mr. Muellner’s students from Boston Arts Academy with whom we have created a partnership. BAA is a pilot school whose mission is to help students become well-rounded artists and scholars. It is the first public art school in Massachusetts and looks very much like Fame or Glee. We hope to teach each other lessons on our national culture and history. This way we can improve our English and learn more about Boston and the United States in general.

On top of this, we are also creating a partnership with two community colleges: MassBay in Boston, and Bronx New York in NY. This will help us know more about the types of trainings that are offered in vocational studies, and maybe one day we can spend one year studying in the United States!!

We are also going to be in contact with American companies, which will allow us to deepen our knowledge and our skills in English and analyze how American companies work to get prepared for our final exam. Indeed, for our English exam, we have to …

Going to Boston and New York will be a great opportunity to have a global vision of schooling, training, and business and customer relationships. During this trip, we will discover what American learning, training and working methods are, and we will teach them about ours.

What is the Advanced Vocational Diploma in Negotiation and Customer Relation.

  1. This is a two-year course that trains salespeople and business managers
  2. It includes two internship trainings within a company
  3. This is one of the most popular courses for students in France today. This success is due to the Trade, Sales and Communication fields being very attractive industries

This Advanced vocational diploma trains future executive assistants, both in school and on the field, and guarantees the acquisition of skills that will prove essential in the sales negotiation and the prospection of new clients. During our training, we perform internships in companies in order to apply the theory learned in class and get to practice to gain experience.
