Our Project with Boston

We are 21 vocational students from Joliot-Curie community college in Nanterre. We are Seniors majoring in Negotiation and Customer Relationship. With the help of our teachers, Ms. Khiat and Ms. Guenoun, we are planning on going to the United States next Spring, more specifically to Boston and New York.

We chose to visit the city of Boston, because thanks to Ms. Khiat, our English teacher, we had the opportunity to come into contact with Mr. Cormeau’s students from Another Course to College high school last year, which allowed us to talk with them about our cultures and values, but also to break down the stereotypes we had on our respective countries. With the Q&As (questions and answers) we exchanged, we learned many things and we imagined it would be a good idea to discover the country by ourselves.

This year, we are in contact wit Mr. Muellner’s students from Boston Arts Academy with whom we have created a partnership. BAA is a pilot school whose mission is to help students become well-rounded artists and scholars. It is the first public art school in Massachusetts and looks very much like Fame or Glee. We hope to teach each other lessons on our national culture and history. This way we can improve our English and learn more about Boston and the United States in general.

On top of this, we are also creating a partnership with two community colleges: MassBay in Boston, and Bronx New York in NY. This will help us know more about the types of trainings that are offered in vocational studies, and maybe one day we can spend one year studying in the United States!!

We are also going to be in contact with American companies, which will allow us to deepen our knowledge and our skills in English and analyze how American companies work to get prepared for our final exam. Indeed, for our English exam, we have to …

Going to Boston and New York will be a great opportunity to have a global vision of schooling, training, and business and customer relationships. During this trip, we will discover what American learning, training and working methods are, and we will teach them about ours.
